Yesterday (30 June), the Government published the Defense Investment Plan. This marks a crucial milestone for British defense. Putting an extra £15 billion into defense is a strong start to meeting the target of reaching 3% of GDP in the next Parliament. It provides much needed clarity. But, importantly, the DIP also made clear the Government’s commitment to learn the lessons from Ukraine and the Middle East, transforming the armed forces for the modern battlefield. Drone technology and autonomy are the future, but they need digital integration with human-in-the-loop decision making to fully realise their potential.
The DIP included significant commitments to tech innovation, including funding to build a new Digital Targeting Web. AI and software can connect sensors, deciders, and effectors across the armed forces and enhance decision-making in every domain. We also welcome the clear demand signal sent by investing in UK Defense Innovation, Project ASGARD, the Hybrid Navy, Taskforce RAID, and Project FRONTIER.
Hadean has been an active voice in this debate, with our Co-Founder and CEO, Craig Beddis, commenting in The Telegraph and The Times ahead of the announcement. Ross Exley, VP Defense Strategy, was featured in POLITICO and The Times, and appeared on Sky News and Times Radio to discuss what the DIP means for British tech companies. This is part of a longstanding contribution as a member of the Defense Industrial Joint Council. Hadean remains committed to ensuring British and Allied warfighters have cutting-edge software.
“It is good news to finally have the Defense Investment Plan published. This will help the MOD move forward and start placing orders with British tech companies. As a proud member of the Defense Industrial Joint Council, Hadean has been a champion for developing sovereign capability. We will continue to speak up for homegrown talent and innovation.” – Craig Beddis, Co- Founder & CEO of Hadean
“There is a lot to unpack from this announcement. But it is a critical milestone in the national debate around the capabilities we need to deter and fight our adversaries. Digital integration, as set out in the Strategic Defense Review last year, is vital. We will keep leading and developing the SCEPTRE technology stack to show how cutting-edge software is transforming the modern battlefield.” – Ross Exley, VP of Defense Strategy at Hadean
