Minecraft adopts Hadean’s technology to dynamically scale new multiplayer game experiences
We are delighted to be working with Mojang Studios on the best-selling game of all time, Minecraft. The project, which kicks off this month, will utilise our technology to explore all new multiplayer gameplay possibilities.
How Hadean is Changing Online Gaming
We enable developers to build games without compromising their original vision. Its distributed load balancing technology ensures a scale invariant simulation and enables unlimited player connections from around the world.
Currently the complexity, fidelity and realism of a multiplayer game is held back by the availability of resources. In online multiplayer games – where the experience is often heavily dependent on interaction with other players – this limitation is felt particularly acutely. Each player added exponentially increases the interactions, placing intense strain on the network topography and the underlying infrastructure. In an industry where performance and smooth gameplay are of vital importance, optimising the tradeoff is a perennial burden for developers and designers.
Most studios address this issue by segmenting their gameworlds into shards and run multiple instances alongside one another, each with its own set of computing resources and a predefined player limit. Sharding safeguards performance and reliability of the simulation, but it is an imperfect solution that imposes a number of design constraints and inhibits the social and collaborative nature of games.
Our spatial model represents a paradigm shift in game design and one that negates the need for these architectural restrictions. A spatial simulation library which integrates with all major gaming engines, it dynamically scales across different machines and processors to meet the computational demand, whether that’s an influx of connections, millions of AI entities or providing a game of unprecedented depth and realism.
Creating New Possibilities with Minecraft
Minecraft is the best selling game of all time and caters to a vast audience across all five continents
Mojang Studios CTO, Michael Weilbacher, has said of the project, ‘Hadean’s technology is a game-changer that opens up a range of new design possibilities — not just for games like Minecraft, but for streaming platforms, developer communities, and even enterprise applications. We are pleased to be partnering and using Hadean’s next-generation technology to help us create new opportunities for our customers.’
