All roads lead to I/ITSEC…a blog series – part 2

summary

In the second of our I/ITSEC 2022 blog series, we continue to chart the journey Hadean has made from successfully cementing our place in the gaming sector to establishing a solid position within the Defence industry.

Punching above our weight in the gaming and defence industries

Hadean has built the next generation platform for Defence.

What do we mean when we say this? We will happily elaborate further in this blog but in the meanwhile, welcome back to our series leading to our I/ITSEC 2022 attendance at the end of November (if you missed the first one you can catch up here (Part 1). We have been tracing the path that Hadean has navigated, which brings us to our current positioning. Here we look at how our market leading distributed cloud computing capabilities, which enabled us to make an impact in the gaming industry, are now providing ground-breaking solutions within the defence sector.

Revolutionising the gaming world

In gaming, the kind of virtual worlds we now see and expect are persistent, complex, rendered with highly detailed environments and full of interacting, responsive entities. Historically, much commerce has been put into the creation of these worlds to such an extent that they are practically fully embodied, hyper-realistic mini universes in their own right. In playing them, gamers feel transported. The experience is completely immersive. The technology that makes these experiences so life-like has come about as a result of computational evolution and at Hadean we have taken this evolution to the next stage. Our distributed cloud computing platform that scales dynamically on any environment has smashed through previous limitations meaning that gamers in numbers reaching the hundreds of thousands can interact and play together, in real time, from diverse locations and without losing the quality of the experience. This is great news for gaming communities around the world (just ask the EVE MMO fans) who can have everyone on board as they thrash out their battles royale but why does this also present a fantastic innovation for defence?

To put it simply, the same technology that is used to enhance and revolutionise gaming can be pivoted to drive the next stage of the defence sector’s progression. This is already happening as we are currently working to provide solutions to some inherited technological challenges within the industry.

So what sorts of challenges might these be?

The next generation platform for defence – why was there a need?

Given the characteristics of the macro climate that exists right now and are likely to carry on into the near future, the defence sector must navigate ever more challenging and complex situations — never have the 5Cs (congested, cluttered, contested, connected and constrained) or the VUCA1 acronym been more pertinent — all under the pressure of constant competition.

The previously available synthetic training programmes are domain specific meaning that they cannot be extended beyond the pre-set territory and are therefore scale and fidelity inhibited. Any attempt to combine previous training assets with new and distributable live, virtual and constructive (LVC) training systems meets with high cost, may not be secure or even reliable. This leads to inefficient force preparation as personnel could be at risk of being committed to perform operations following sub-optimal training.

The obtaining and sharing of live ‘big data’ is constantly critical to the outcome of missions, not only that, being able to leverage this data in order to quickly explore multiple courses of action is an invaluable benefit but is also something not easily achievable with present programmes or systems. Managing supply chains, planning out logistics and the ability to develop capabilities are all subject to accessing and utilising ‘big data’  but these activities, too, fall victim to a lack of thoroughness when it isn’t easy to exploit decision support information.

The race for technical dominance never ceases as every side wishes to gain advantage by rapidly exploiting cutting edge technology. It is, and will continue to be the key determining factor for successful outcomes, however, the inability to integrate old and new technology through open architecture and common standards leads to gaps in understanding, putting innovative progress at risk which could result in one falling behind when it comes to technological advances.

How has Hadean helped industry partners to overcome these challenges?

We understand that digital transformation and widespread adoption of the use of synthetic environments will bring about the evolution of the defence sector to enable it to meet the challenges of tomorrow which is why we have successfully established ourselves as the trusted provider of the next generation of defence capabilities

Our Hadean Platform enables governments and Defence System Integrators to build realistic, almost tangible synthetic environments (much like the vivid, immersive gaming worlds mentioned above) that will answer the needs and demands of the highest levels of operational readiness.

Hadean is providing the infrastructure for this transformation; some of the ways in which our technology is creating high value impact is through the following:

Multi-Domain Training

We can simulate the scale and complexity of real-world scenarios. Our agnostic platform allows for the integration of data from LVC systems to feed into and create common or single synthetic environments that can be securely accessed by operators from disparate locations. In other words, there are no longer  limits in terms of numbers or location of participants for cross-domain collective training.

Decision Support

Advanced decision support is provided through the simulation and subsequent exploration of practically unlimited what-if scenarios through the use of Hadean’s smart scaling platform. Other scenarios can also be run in parallel to gain more rapid data outputs.

Enhanced Wargaming

Unlimited courses of action can be quickly created and then explored to gain improved understanding. Complex scenarios can be represented and reviewed within both virtual and constructive environments providing opportunities to make informed assessments.

Virtual Test and Evaluation

Systems, subsystems and weapons can all be rendered in realistic virtual test and evaluation environments therefore providing test and evaluation data that is cost effective, reliable, and contributes to net zero targets .

These are just some of the ways in which our technology makes us a market leader and an optimum fit for defence. It is an accolade we do not take lightly as we are aware that there are alternative providers as well as those who have been in the sector prior to our arrival, however, we know that our approach and solutions are novel. Our platform isn’t reliant on any middleware or bloated technology stacks yet at the same time it is compatible enough to port code and data across any environment. In other words, our technology can hold its own but also plays well with others.

What are we going to do at I/ITSEC?

At I/ITSEC we will be sharing a thrilling new demonstration of our capabilities. We will be collaborating with our partners such as BAE Systems, CAE, Cervus, Thales,  Plexsys Microsoft and Epic, and sharing insights as to the successful outcomes of the work we have done together. We are, of course,  looking forward to meeting those of you who will be attending. If it isn’t clear already, we are a small company that’s proven to be great at solving big tech problems and is trusted by government and industry. So why not arrange a meeting or come by our booth (1460) to have a chat with us to see what solutions we can come up with for you?
